Making smartphone app security easier? New technology for protection without coding!

Hello everyone! I'm John, and I'll be explaining new topics about AI technology and digital in an easy-to-understand way, even for beginners. So, do you think the smartphone apps we use every day are really safe? In fact, there has been an increase in attacks by bad people (we call them hackers) targeting smartphone apps recently. Both companies and customers are worried about the risks.

But don't worry! Today, I'd like to introduce a new technology that may make it possible to easily protect such apps without programming knowledge. A tool called "Quick Protect Agent" announced by a company called Digital.ai may hold the key.

Why is app security so important now?

According to Digital.ai CEO Derek Holt, the company's research (2025 Application Security Threat Report) revealed some surprising facts.

  • Apps in the app store80% or moreis under some kind of attack!
  • The number of attacks is up compared to the previous year.Increased by about 20%I am!

Well, that's a bit scary, isn't it? In particular, security teams are very good at protecting very important apps like banking apps that are related to money (let's call these "main apps"). However, depending on the company, it can be difficult to reach out to apps that are only used by employees for business communication, or apps that are a bit minor but have useful functions (let's call these "secondary apps" or "tertiary apps"). This is because security teams have limited resources (manpower, time, etc.).

And it seems that bad hackers tend to target such apps that tend to be a little less secure. It seems that attacks are now being directed at apps in industries that have not been targeted much until now. That's troubling.

That's where "Quick Protect Agent" comes in! What is it?

To solve this problem, Digital.ai developed the Quick Protect Agent. This allows app developers to:No need for specialized security knowledge or difficult programming (called coding)It's a tool that allows you to protect your apps.

Have you ever heard of the term "No-Code"? This literally means "no code writing" and is a mechanism that allows you to create systems and applications and add functions without programming. This Quick Protect Agent also incorporates the idea of "no code".

It seems to be very simple to use:

  1. Developers simply drag and drop (grab and move with the mouse) the app file (called a binary) they want to protect onto the computer screen.
  2. Next, follow the on-screen instructions to choose how secure you want it to be and what kind of protection you want to add.
  3. This includes the four categories of "resilience" defined by OWASP MASVS (pronounced OWASP MASVS, which is a global list of standards for verifying the security of mobile apps).
  4. Once the settings are decided, the tool will output them as settings for a command line interface (a sort of black screen for issuing commands to a computer). With this, you can automatically apply the same security settings to new applications you create in the future (called builds). Very convenient!

Digital.ai originally had a product group called "Application Security Suite" that allows more detailed adjustment of security settings. This is mainly used by security specialist teams who fine-tune the balance between performance and security for important main applications. However, Quick Protect Agent generates appropriate security settings for many other applications that you don't have time to spend on by simply answering a few simple questions.

Whichever tool you use, you can rest assured that the decisions made when configuring the settings will be properly recorded (logged).

What do the experts think?

What do the experts think about this new tool?

Jason Andersen, principal analyst at Moor Insights & Strategy, said:

"This is an interesting new feature, and it fits with what we're seeing in the development (or so we call it the DevOps) space. Digital.ai is right when they say they're seeing a huge increase in hacking activity. Other companies are reporting similar trends, and it's believed this is because hackers are starting to use automation and AI techniques. So these kinds of protection tools are absolutely necessary, especially for mobile apps, which are updated more frequently than corporate web apps."

Andersen goes on to cite two additional benefits of using this tool as an agent in a development workflow:

  • Even developers who are not very familiar with app security will be able to protect their own apps.
  • Security measures will become more widespread and more frequent.

They hope that in the future, agents like GitHub Copilot (an AI tool that helps with programming) may work together to provide more real-time, autonomous security measures.

However, David Shipley, CEO of a company called Beauceron Security, offers a word of caution.

"Making the code harder to understand helps, but it doesn't close the weaknesses (called vulnerabilities) in the app itself. It just makes it harder to find weaknesses using old-fashioned methods," he said. According to him, this kind of measure is "like a collision prevention alert in a car that activates to prevent accidents." Of course, it's a good thing, but it's even better to understand and fix the root cause of why an accident almost happened. It's important to treat the root cause, not just suppress the symptoms.

A word from John

What did you think of this "Quick Protect Agent"? Being able to improve app security with drag and drop even without much programming knowledge seems like it will be a really powerful ally for developers.

Of course, as Shipley says, this alone will not solve all security problems. But I think it's very valuable as a "big first step" in security measures, especially for companies that are short on manpower or have to manage a lot of apps. For us users, it's good to see more secure apps!
